An unlikely expat blogger behind BluebellPepperWoodFern

Hello, I’m Sofia
I work as a project manager. I’m a parent and an expat based in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter living abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Portugal wasn't part of the grand plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a work opportunity and quickly turned into something far more significant.
The opening months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt heavier than they should.
The Adjustment Period
Culture shock, doubts, and plenty of hands-on learning were part of it. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built BluebellPepperWoodFern
Most online information was either corporate relocation tips or merely superficial travel material. What was missing was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical experience gained from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something meaningful changes
This site isn't:
- A resource for tourism authorities
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
We continues our time in Portugal and the learning journey goes on. As long as the information remains useful, I will keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sofia
